Preschool Corner

We have finally gotten back to some after-schooling this week. And it has been a total blast. Monkey especially loves doing learning activities with me. So he is a complete joy to work with.

Mother Goose Time

Monkey and I did some Mother Goose Time activities this week. I let him look through the lesson plan book, and decide what he wanted to make. He chose the flashlight, and the star. Apparently I didn’t get any pictures of his work  on the stars. But I did get a couple of pictures of the play flashlight he made, and the dance that he and Alligator did to the flashlight song.

Sight Word Work

Monkey is now noticing some of the words he knows when we are out and about. Like, the other day he saw the word ‘you’ on a box at the store, he recognized it and said “look mom, that box has the word “you” on it, isn’t that one of our words?'” So they are really becoming immediate in his little brain. Which is AWESOME!

We are adding to our Caterpillar. (The idea is from The Moffat Girls, but we aren’t following their program exactly, so I have made circles to that have our words on it, to add.)

Stamp the word.

He loves a water gun. So we invented shoot the word. I wrote this weeks words on our porch. Then we rolled our dice, and he had to find the word that came off and shoot it with the water gun…hey, what ever works right???

Workbook Fun

We bought some great workbooks from Barnes and Noble. They are based off of Disney animate shows, like Cars, and Handy Manny. This one is about measurement, and Monkey really likes it. At first he measured with blocks, but then he wanted to try measuring with his measurement tape (they gave it to us when we registered him for school). He caught on quick to lining up the “0” with the start of the item he was measuring.

Preschool Corner

Monkey will be 5 in one week! We are so excited for his birthday party! He has asked for a Tom and Jerry Theme. But, more about that in coming posts.

We had a really busy week. Both boys were sick this week. Alligator had the flu (we did vaccinate him, but he got a milder version anyway), and Monkey, Mommy and Daddy all had some sort of bug. Therefore we had a lot of time at home, and other than one day, we all had the energy to do some projects.

This post if picture overload, so I will try to keep it as sort as possible.

Our theme this month is Birds and Eggs.

You can’t tell from the picture but we are learning about ovals, so we put some foam ovals under the paper, and he is coloring over them with chalk and they “magically” appear.

Preschool Corner St. Patrick’s Day Measuring

I found this wonderful site and I knew it was right up Monkey’s ally.
Here is the link. I changed her sheet to match some items we had on hand. I glued a leprechauns hat over the picture in the first space, and I glued a gold coin over the picture in the last space.
Here is what our sheet looked like.
IMG_4612
The link above has 2 printable shamrocks. I let Monkey choose which one he wanted to measure.
Here he is counting how many hats long the shamrock is.
IMG_4609
As you can see, in space 2 it asks you to measure using crayons. I thought he would lay them horizontally to measure. But no, he wanted to lay them vertically.

I am thinking that I can to an egg activity and a bird activity for him for our next unit on birds and eggs. Such a great idea….We loved it!
It woks on:
counting, measuring, writing numbers and a little bit of reading!

We had snow this week. So Monkey had fun sledding in our front yard.

The only other planned activity was the sensory bin. You can read my post about it here.

I am going to plan some activities to do with Monkey for next week. I spent this week really fine tuning my Alligator activities, which you can read bout in my next post.

I was really thinking we didn’t do much this week. But now looking at the pictures I realize how busy we were. Alligator had tubes put in on Thursday, so it was a very stressful week here in our house. But I am happy to see so much learning going on!

Even with Alligator being so sick there was a lot of learning with brother this week:

Stacking cups with Daddy and Alligator. The funnest part was knocking the tower down!

IMG_4389IMG_4386

This picture is really shadowed, but we hid some items in ice, and the boys had fun playing with the items and feeling the cold, cold ice!

A Sensory Bin:

We added an old cheese container, Monkey loves to shake out the rice.

5 little Astronauts. Monkey enjoyed putting up the astronauts as we sang the song.

Working on our Rocket (click here to see post)

IMG_4359

We shot rockets to the moon. Using a straw and a smaller straw with a rocket shape taped to it. You blow the smaller straw out of the bigger straw to see if you can get it to land on the moon. I thought Monkey would love this activity, but it only lasted a few minutes.

Preschool Fun

Monkey came home from preschool telling me that they ice skated, but putting bags on their feet and sliding around on the carpet. He wanted to do it at home too. So of course we did!
